COVID-19 Biggest News Of Director’s Career

2020 has been a year for news like none other for Acadia Broadcasting’s news director in Thunder Bay.

Vic Krasowski says as the COVID-19 pandemic unfolded globally, a huge moment for him was when the NBA made the first move to call its season.

“That seemed to be the tipping point. All the dominoes started to fall right after that here in Canada. The NHL cancelled the rest of its season, then major league baseball,” says the news director.

He adds the pandemic has caused the news to change hour by hour, and left everyone tense, especially governments.

“The steps they’ve been taking, closing schools, making us stay at home. This has never been done before. And how world-wide it is too, just the expanse of it, is also breath taking sometimes for me,” added Krasowski.

Once the virus began to spread beyond Europe, Acadia’s news director adds it became mind boggling the extent to which this virus is having. Another big shocker for him was seeing schools close for another two weeks after March Break.

“When I saw that come up, I just went outside the newsroom and said ‘They’re closing the schools for two weeks’, and I think everyone’s jaws dropped on that one. Everyone knew this was serious,” recalls Krasowski.

He adds with the sports world also locked down, not even 9-11 compares to this in his 45 years of covering news.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
