Ottawa is ramping up how they deal with Employment Insurance applications.
The Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion, Carla Qualtrough, says they’ve received over two point one million EI claims in the past two weeks, and have already processed over 430-thousand of those.
“In the space of a few weeks, Service Canada has developed and implemented a streamlined process,” says Qualtrough, “…that starting Wednesday, will be able to automatically process approximately 400 thousand applications per day.”
Qualtrough adds that this means the backlog of applications should be cleared soon.
She goes on to say that they (the Federal Government) have been unequivocal in their commitment to supporting all workers facing hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic by setting up the Canada Emergency Response Benefit.
Qualtrough adds that there is now more information on how to apply for the CERB online here, and the applications will be live as of Monday.
