The fate of Thunder Bay’s OPG generating station is still up in the air.
Ontario Power Generation Spokesperson Neal Kelly says they are decommissioning the site but also have hired a company to look at alternative options for the facility.
“We heard from stakeholders that maybe somebody else wants to come in and put something else at the site, we thought ok and let’s consider everything. We’ll make a decision either this fall or sometime in the winter of 2021,” Kelly says.
Kelly went on to say, “our intention is to decommission the plant and we are underway in that process. Whether someone comes and finishes the decommissioning for us or uses the site for another business that’s all possible.”
In 2018, OPG stopped using the facility after it was being used as a biomass plant.
