Youth Awards Get Shot In The Arm

The 16th annual Indigenous Youth Achievement & Recognition Awards is getting $2,000 from the Thunder Bay Police Services Board.

Spokesperson Ashley Nurmela says it means the world to organizers to receive the funding again.

“The Thunder Bay Police Services is never somebody who doesn’t donate to the awards. They are always on board and in fact, they take pride in presenting with us,” Nurmela notes.

She goes on to say the youth who are nominated feel valued.

“They feel like they have a place in the city, in northwestern Ontario. Often times and especially with social media taking a front seat, it’s important to showcase the good news stories for our youth,” Nurmela says.

Nominations are being accepted until March 25th and the awards show is being held on May 5th at the Valhalla Inn.
