Mauro Supports Fox For Five-Dollar Bill

The Mayor is hoping the city can have some influence on who appears on the new edition of the Canadian five-dollar bill.

Bill Mauro would like that person to be Terry Fox, who stopped his Marathon of Hope just outside of Thunder Bay in 1980.

“I really have two heroes in my life, Terry Fox was one of them,” says the mayor “and given the connection that he has to the city and our area I just thought it was something worthy of the consideration of city council.”

The Bank of Canada has started an online campaign calling for nominations and the mayor is encouraging you to vote for Terry Fox.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
