The Police Services Board can check off another of the recommendations from the Ontario Civilian Police Commission.
Board Chair Tom Lockwood says all members have now received cultural sensitivity training, but he does not want it to end there. “I think training is a continual thing,” says Lockwood.
The last of the board members to get training was Kyle Lansdell who lived with an Indigenous family for four weeks. The rest of the members had three days of governance training and three days of cultural awareness training.
The training for police board members in Thunder Bay is one of the recommendations made following a report in December of 2018 which concluded there is systemic racism in the police service.
