3 Options Proposed For Victoriaville

Consultants are proposing three options for the future of the over 40-year-old Victoriaville.

Jeff Palmer is a community planner with consulting firm Urban Systems. The options range from renovating the mall, tearing it down or a hybrid system that would include keeping parts of the mall and opening other parts of it to allow for a market-style setting. Palmer tells us the options aren’t fully costed at this point, they are just collecting feedback from the public on which option is preferred.

The community planner notes operationally the cheapest method is to tear down the building based on previous studies conducted by the city that suggest it would be around $9 million. He notes it would be more economical because there won’t be operating losses.

The final suggestion on what to do with Victoriaville Mall is coming to City Council for a decision in April.

Realty Services Manager Joel DePeuter notes there is a lot of heated and controversial history behind the Victoriaville Mall and expects a lot of feedback that will reflect that.
