VIDEO: Larry Hebert Out On Bail

After spending over 60 days in jail former city councillor Larry Hebert is out on bail.

Hebert’s lawyer David Young found someone to act as surety for the 72-year-old. A surety is someone who vouches and is responsible for someone out on bail.

If the bail conditions aren’t met the surety is expected to pay a $10,000 fee and Hebert would pay a $1,000.

Part of the bail conditions include rules around not having contact with certain individuals and not possessing any intoxicating substances. Hebert can’t own any firearms or weapons as well.

The 72-year-old appeared in court in person today and nodded at one of the people who are stepping up to look after him. There are two people who have been sworn in as Hebert’s surety in case one of them has to step away from Thunder Bay for a couple of days.

The former councillor’s next court date is set for February 25th. When leaving the courthouse today, reporters asked if he would comment to which he said no.

Hebert was charged with attempted murder in November following what police called a “serious incident” at a south Vickers street home. Police say a man attacked and threatened an individual inside the home and that person was able to run to a nearby home to call 911.

There is a publication ban in place covering many of the details of the court proceedings.
