Canadian Great Makes MLB Hall!

The kid from Maple Ridge, British Columbia is going to be a Major League Baseball Hall of Famer! Right Fielder Larry Walker, in his 10th and final year of eligibility, made the cut by the skin of his teeth! Needing 75% of the vote from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America to make the grade, Walker got 76.6%, making the Hall by just six votes! Check out Larry, surrounded by family and friends, getting the call from the Hall!

Number 33 will be just the second Canadian ball player to be enshrined in Cooperstown, with pitcher Fergie Jenkins getting the nod back in 1991. Larry had a legendary career, amassing many stellar statistics. He started his run with the Montreal Expos and was really ripped off when the players strike derailed a dominant Expos team that had their eyes on the World Series. He moved on to the Colorado Rockies the next year and flourished. His career season was 1997, hitting .366 with 49 home runs (league leader), 130 RBI, and 33 stolen bases, going on to win the National League MVP for the season.

Tim and Sid had Larry on to talk about the honour and checked to see how he celebrated. His answer is classically Canadian! Makes me think that Larry would be a fan of The Bay! Also how about that SpongeBob shirt!?

In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
