Unifor Pleads For Streetcar Contract

There is a glimmer of hope for added work at the local Bombardier plant.

Union official Dominic Pasqualino, along with another Unifor representative, made a pitch to Toronto City Council for our plant be chosen to build an additional 60 streetcars for the Toronto Transit Commission.

He says the number of cars the TTC has now does not appear to be enough to handle the area’s growing population.

“We went down there to stress the fact that we need the cars now and they need the cars now and I felt we can produce the cars for the best price,” said Pasqualino.

He indicates it would not take much to get the local plant ready to build the streetcars and to recall some of the laid-off workers.

The union spokesperson says the TTC is expected to discuss the issue at a meeting next week.
