Ford Touts Funding For Communities

The Premier is promising more funding to leaders at the Rural Ontario Municipal Association conference.

Doug Ford says he’s putting another $5-million into a program that will pay for half of projects that make it easier to create jobs and “attract investment and skilled workers that will help regions grow.”

The Rural Economic Development, or RED program will also cover 30% of the cost of projects to spur economic growth, like establishing community hubs.

Rural municipalities, Indigenous communities, non-profits, and local services boards can apply for the funding until February 24.

Meanwhile, Ford drew attention to $200-million in funding through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund that was doled out last week. Communities in the northwest are among those to share in that provincial funding.

“This money will help 424 small, rural, and northern communities across Ontario to build and repair roads, bridges, water and wastewater infrastructure.”

The townships of Conmee, O’Connor and Shuniah will get $50,000 each, while Oliver-Paipoonge receives over $291,000. Neebing will get more than $156,000.

Elsewhere, the Town of Fort Frances is receiving $682,000, Atikokan will get $272,000 and the town of Rainy River $145,000. Almost $697,000 is going to Dryden, and Ignace will get more than $193,000.

The township of Emo is receiving over $64,000. The townships of Alberton, Chapple, Dawson, La Vallee, Lake of the Woods, Morley and Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls each get $50,000 as well.
