What began as a report of an assault turned into a peculiar set of events for city police.
They tell us they were called to an address on South Syndicate between Arthur and Ridgeway early Thursday afternoon.
The investigation took them into an apartment building were they saw water flowing from under a closed door, heard fireworks being set off inside, followed by reports of a fire. That meant city fire crews had to respond.
When all the dust settled police found a large quantity of cash in the apartment unit which they believed may have come from the proceeds of crime.
Five people, four from Thunder Bay and one from Toronto are facing charges.
The assault investigation continues.
