Local Stores Apply For Cannabis Licence

Two local cannabis accessory stores have applied to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario for a licence to sell cannabis.

Matthew Harrison of Kia Ora Kannabis on Victoria Avenue tells us the process to get a licence is easier this time around, and suggests their location has as good a chance as any to qualify. He says they have had their store built since June and have been “in contact with AGCO a few times letting them know the store is ready” to open.

He says overall the application fees are about $13,000 with more money required up front to purchase the product.

As well, the owners of Rainbow on May and Rainbow on Bay head shops have also applied for a licence.

The provincial government says store licences from this application process are expected to be issued beginning in April at an initial rate of about 20 per month.
