Chamber Expects Minimum Wage Increase

This year could bring a small boost in the minimum wage according to the Chamber of Commerce.

President Charla Robinson says two years after the last major wage hike, she expects the province will decide whether we see another increase this year. “Whether we go back to the inflationary increase on a regular basis versus the don’t do anything for years and years and then there is a big hit.”

The Chamber official adds since minimum wage rose to $14 in January 2018, local businesses have adjusted to the change but continue to look for savings. As for the economy this year, the Chamber President says she expects it to grow slowly.
