VIDEO: Dawson Road Speed Limit Could Be 50 KM/HR

On January 13th, City Council is going to look at reducing the speed limit from 60 to 50 on Dawson Road. The recommendation from city staff after a speed and traffic study was conducted.

Director of Engineering Kayla Dixon tells us the recommendation is coming to Council at their next meeting. “It would be implemented shortly after, we would have to bring a by-law forward and that would take a couple of weeks and then it would be enforced.”

The traffic study found people were driving too fast in that area and also looked at the number of collisions that occurred on that road. If the proposal passes, the speed will be 50 km/hr from Hilldale to Paquette Road on Dawson. Dixon notes they consulted City Police and they agreed with their idea to lower the speed limit.

Dixon adds this has nothing to do with adjustments to the Truck Route By-law, which could see truck travel restricted from using Dawson Road and moved to Highway 11/17.
