It Appears Worst Of Snow Is Over

Update 9am:

Thunder Bay has escaped the latest prediction of snow from Environment Canada.

Meteorologist Steven Flisfeder tells us only about 5-10cms fell between yesterday afternoon and this morning. “The system that was affecting the area over the last two days just lost its moisture and didn’t produce as much snow as we were expecting.”

The Environment Canada meteorologist adds Thunder Bay to Marathon got the worst of the last 48 hours with up to 35cms compared to other parts of northwestern Ontario. “It’s still kind of lingering around the area, just on the outskirts, over Lake Superior and it will slowly be pushing off east.” Environment Canada does not expect any more significant snowfall into the rest of this week.

Traffic:

Good news from Thunder Bay police in that there are no collisions to report this morning.

Now taking a look around the region at the Ontario 511 website, it appears there’s a disabled transport truck blocking the eastbound lane of the 11/17 about 20mins west of Nipigon, and the eastbound lane of highway 11 at Beardmore is still partly blocked from a disabled truck. And there’s a disabled vehicle blocking the southbound lane of highway 585, about 20kms north of the 11/17. The road conditions around the region are bare to somewhat snow covered.

Airport:

As for the Thunder Bay airport, a Porter arrival via Hamilton for 9 has been pushed to 10:30, while a Porter departure to Toronto at 8 has been pushed to 10:50 this morning.

Hydro:

Looking at Hydro One and Synergy North outage maps, nothing to mention.
