The city is dealing with an unusual problem, someone has been stealing parking meters.
City Parking Manager Jonathan Paske tells us about 60 have been ripped from their posts in the north downtown core and the Bay and Algoma District. He says “we’re kind of shocked we’ve never seen anything like this before.”
In an effort to prevent future thefts, Paske says they are welding the meters right to the posts “to make them permanent.”
The city parking manager adds police have been notified and have been given surveillance video to study.
