One Day Strike Closes Schools

For the second time in three weeks schools in Thunder Bay are all closed because of a one day public high school teachers strike. The walkout also affects designated early childhood educators, student support persons, and attendance counsellors within the Catholic school system.

It follows the breakdown in negotiations between the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation and the Ford government.

OSSTF official Rich Seeley explains until the government decides to address their issues job action will continue.

Seeley explains the union is “willing to come to the table and start talking” as soon as the government reduces class sizes and eliminates e-learning. They are the most contentious issues dividing the two sides in this dispute.

Today’s strike means all English Catholic and public schools are closed.
