Huge Donation Pushes Hospital Towards Goal

A $500,000 donation has been given to the Regional Health Sciences Centre to help it raise $14-million for cardio-vascular care.

Hospital Foundation President Glenn Craig says the money, from Marian Boxer and the Bachinski family, will be split between cancer and cardiac wards.

“Their mother was touched by kidney cancer and received care at the cancer centre here, so they wanted to donate half their donation to that program, and the other half is going to cardiac, which their father suffered from a heart attack.”

The hospital foundation CEO adds Marian Boxer is from Thunder Bay, but moved to Toronto, while her family still lives here.

Boxer says her parents were married for 60 years, with him passing away 7 months after she died.

Her mother was one of the first patients at the hospital to receive kidney care.

In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
