Volunteer Group Digs Out Local Driveways

A new volunteer group is staying busy shoveling driveways for seniors and people with disabilities who may feel trapped in their homes.

Snow Angels Thunder Bay founder Shayan Syed explains they clear away the snow for people who can’t shovel it themselves, and can’t afford to pay someone to do it. He notes the work has been rewarding.

“We have about six or seven volunteers and about 120 people that have called, so we’re kind of overwhelmed, but it’s going really well.”

He offered the same driveway-clearing service on his own last year, but says he knew he had to connect with the community to be able to help more people. Syed encourages anyone who wants to join the group to contact their social media page.

In addition to helping local residents, Snow Angels Thunder Bay also dug out some retirement homes who were short on volunteers to make their parking lots safe for residents.

Syed chose the name Snow Angels Thunder Bay in hopes that the group will catch on in other cities.
