Another 25 evacuees from Bearskin Lake First Nation have arrived in Thunder Bay. Deputy Fire Chief Greg Hankkio tells us it brings the number of residents flown here to about 175.
He says “that should be…the last of the people leaving” the remote community.
They have been staying at a local hotel until the threat of flooding from the Severn River eases. Hankkio stresses city resources have not been stretched as a result of the evacuees.
He explains they have handled much larger groups in the past.

Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
