Ice Dragons Take Over Kam River

There’s a unique winter fundraiser coming to the Fort William Historical Park this family day long weekend. Northern Ontario’s debut Ice Dragon Boat Challenge will hit the frozen Kam River during the February 2020 Family Day long weekend.

Spokesperson Emily Carr tells us the dragon boats have been equipped with skis and the paddles have ice picks on them so the participants can hit them into the ice pushing them forward.

Youth and Adult teams will race in the specially designed boats propelled by 10 paddlers each. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 teams in both the Youth and Adult categories. If you want to take part you need to sign up by January 24th.
Money raised goes towards the United Way and the Lakehead Canoe Club.
