Charges Laid In Summer Boat Crash

A 50-year-old Thunder Bay man is facing a lengthy list of charges stemming from a boating collision outside the break-wall in front of the Thunder Bay Marina during the summer.

Gary Joseph Wenzel is facing five counts each of impaired operation of causing bodily harm and five counts of dangerous operation causing bodily harm.

Police were called to the area just after 11 p.m. on Aug. 22, to find the boat hit the break-wall. Six people were hurt, one with life-threatening injuries. Police add those injuries are no longer life-threatening.

Wenzel appeared in bail court this morning and was released with a future court date.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
