Canada’s role in the war in Afghanistan is being honoured with a new memorial at Queen’s Park. Premier Doug Ford indicates it will be a tribute to the living and the dead.
Ford says it is “a commitment to honour and celebrate the courage of the 40,000 Canadian men and women who served in Afghanistan.” It is also to “give our thanks to those who made the ultimate sacrifice” the 158 soldiers and 10 civilians who died in that war.
Three soldiers from Thunder Bay died in the Afghan conflict, Robert Costall, Anthony Boneca, and Josh Klukie.
The monument is going to be completed by this time next year.
