Elizabeth May is stepping down as head of the Green Party of Canada, after taking the role in 2006.
She appeared quite relieved in making the announcement moments ago in Ottawa, adding she wants to spend more time with her family, and fulfill a promise to her daughter she’d make the move.
May will stay on as an MP.
Some people are speculating in Ottawa she could run for Speaker of the House of Commons, but that is far from being confirmed.
May says the new interim leader is Jo-Ann Roberts.
The leadership convention for the Green Party is in October of next year, in Charlottetown.
