There appears to be a bond between former NHLer Theo Fleury and current hockey superstar Alex Ovechkin.
In Thunder Bay recently, Fleury acknowledged the connection took him aback after he discovered O-V was wearing a tinted visor and wore yellow laces on his skates like Fleury used to.
The former Calgary Flame says he had never met Ovechkin before and asked the left winger about the recognition.
Fleury says the Washington Capitals star forward told him he used to watch Fleury play when he was a kid.
Ovechkin told Fleury he liked his style, which the former NHL’er thought “was cool”.
Theo Fleury considers it quite an honour to have a player like Ovechkin look up to him.
Fleury was in the city to speak about his battle with mental health after revealing years ago he was the victim of sexual abuse in his junior hockey playing days.
