Tips & Tricks To Trick-Or-Treat

If you are concerned about your kids overindulging in Halloween Candy, the Health Unit has some tips to help keep you and your kids on a healthy track.

Dietitian Karling Draper tells us it’s a good idea to limit how much candy makes it into your home.

“Visiting fewer houses on Halloween night, take out the candy you know they don’t like, maybe you offer to trade in some of their candy for a small toy or stickers.”

If you plan to hand out candy, you are advised to purchase only enough for the kids in your neighbourhood so you don’t have lots of leftovers.

Other tips include giving your kids the option when they have their candy by suggesting would you like it with your lunch or your dinner.

Karling notes giving them the choice “it can be helpful in reducing battles when they feel they have a say in the decision-making process.”
