If you find yourself taking someone to court, the Ontario government is working to cut down on the time and cost involved.
The province is increasing the maximum amount you can sue someone in small claims court to $35,000, from the current $25,000.
As it stands now, anything over the current amount requires the Superior Court of Justice, which is much busier and much more costly than small claims.
The government adds the move, starting January 1st, will free up much space in the Superior Court, which is one of the busiest courts in Canada.
Moving people to small claims means spending less on lawyers, and sometimes less than a year to settle cases.
