The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation is inching closer to its $14 million fundraising goal to set up a heart surgery unit.
So far, The Our Hearts AT Home Cardiovascular campaign has raised $11.5 million, with the rest expected to be raised by March.
Foundation President & CEO Glenn Craig tells us the project itself will cost anywhere from $70 to $80 million, with the rest coming from the several levels of government.
He believes construction of the new facility could start within the next 24 months.
It’s a cause which Thunder Bay’s Donna Pento knows all to well since she was forced to go to southern Ontario for her recent heart operation.
Penko doesn’t want to see anyone go through what she had to go through adding “nobody should have to travel to get this kind of surgery.”
