The big winners of the 4th Wasaya United Way plane pull were the Dennis Franklin Cromarty Thunderhawks.
After taking the top prize in the Class A event at the airport today, we asked them how they felt about their prospects for next year.
“No one has a chance against us, never…(laughter)….not even those other guys.”
The team won by pulling the plane in 14.76 seconds in the final round.
And, there are high fives among organizers of the event.
Spokesperson Jody Wilson pointed out the United Way Thunder Bay Community Fund, and the Aboriginal Youth Achievement and Recognition awards will benefit, in spite of narrowly missing the fundraising target.
“I still feel we’re going to make the goal. We’re just shy of $20,000, and with the wonderful T-shirt donation today, 50/50 draw, and others, there’s still teams to drop off money.”
Acadia Broadcasting took the Class B top prize.
We took 18 seconds to pull the plane in the first match, the 2nd pull we came in at 18.15, while we took just over 16 seconds for the 3rd effort.
$78,000 in total will have been raised following this 4th time around, on the assumption the $20,000 goal of today’s event will be fulfilled.
