The microchipping of pets is the spotlight after it helped reunite a local man with his dog who was found in Manitoba after being lost for four years.
Mike Plas got a phone call from an animal hospital in Winnipeg after the microchip embedded in his pet showed he was the owner
Cassandra Marques of the Thunder Bay District Human Society believes it is sending the message that a microchip is a good way to find a lost pet.
Marques is certain there will be “a major increase” in the practice as a result of the incident.
She agrees the practice of microchipping is gaining popularity.
Marques points out they have noticed that 90 to 95 percent of the time pet owners are “asking for their animal to be microchipped.”
