A program that helps remote First Nation communities improve their access to fruits and vegetables is getting secure funding from the provincial government.
Thunder Bay Health Unit spokesperson Vincent Ng tells us the program is not a food hand out; it’s about creating a source of healthy food for local communities.
“Some communities are looking at community food gardens. Some have models that are working well, so we connect communities so they can share that information.”
In the past, the program was under one-time funding, but in 2019 the province decided to provide base funding for the project.
