International Peace Day Recognized Locally

Thunder Bay Rotarians will be marking the International Day for Peace today.

Past President of the Fort William Rotary Irene Sottile tells us they’ll be gathering at their Peace Pole on Saul Laskin Drive.

“It’s inscribed with the phrase May Peace Prevail in English, French and Ojibwe. Our three main languages in Thunder Bay.”

Thunder Bay’s pole is one of 250,000 poles stationed in 180 countries around the world, which “serve as a constant reminder for us to visualize and work towards a world of peace.”

Rotarians are gathering at 11:30 with others near their Peace Pole at the Marina, at Tai Chi Park.

The United Nations General Assembly has declared the day as being devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.
