MetroLinx Contract Now A Go

It is now official, Thunder Bay’s Bombardier plant will be building 36 bi-level cars for the province’s MetroLinx agency.

This is a confirmation of the same announcement made a few months ago, which union spokesperson Dominic Pasqualino calls “welcome news.”

He says “it’s not a big order, but it’s a very important order for our plant right now.”

The union spokesperson says the announcement is good news for the employees who were not singled out for the up-coming layoffs which are to start in November.

Meantime, Bombardier official David Van der Wee calls the new contract “a great first step” for the Montreal Street plant.

He says the contract is part of Go-Transit’s plan to expand services southern Ontario.
