Thunder Bay’s Thomas Dignan is one of 37 recipients of the Order of Canada.
Governor General Julie Payette presented him with the honour in Ottawa today.
Dr. Dignan, is a Mohawk physician from Six Nations of the Grand River and was sited as a person who has dedicated his life to the well-being of Indigenous communities.
He started his career in Thunder Bay after studying emergency medicine.
Dignan is noted for helping provide Indigenous peoples with equal access to education across the country.
