Parking Lot Scammers May Target T.Bay

A warning from Thunder Bay police to be watching for a group of people involved in fraud who may be heading to this city.

Police say they believe these people are from Romania, speaking with an Eastern European accent, and target mostly seniors.

The fraudsters typically hit big box stores like Walmart, and watch for PIN numbers as people pay for purchases.

Police add the would-be thief follows the potential victim outside, and then creates what police call a distraction in order to steal the credit or debit card.

The disturbance could be anything from asking the victim for directions, offering help or asking for help.
