The organizers of a community outreach group say it’s been an eye-opening experience since it starting patrolling the streets and waterways of Thunder Bay in March.
Sleeping Giant patrol spokesperson Sheena Campbell notes it’s helped her see what’s really going on in this city, in their quest to help people.
“That we often turn a blind eye to, and there is such a need for people to get out there and help.”
The Sleeping Giant patrol is stopping outreach efforts indefinitely, pointing to busy schedules among members.
Campbell is confident other organizations will continue street outreach, and hopes they get recognition for their efforts.
“Giant Hearts, they are a street outreach group, Stand Up for Clean Up is out there doing clean ups. And there’s a couple of other groups that we’ve seen across Facebook doing similar type of things.”
The Sleeping Giant co-founder adds the group isn’t completely going away, noting it’s social media page.
“Leave our page up, we might just keep it unpublished for a while. Should our lives change again, and we have the time and commitment to do it again, we would certainly consider it.”
She adds they’ve been thinking about making this decision since the summer, having started the group in March.
