The mother of a Thunder Bay soldier killed in Afghanistan is calling for more help for soldiers suffering from post traumatic stress disorder.
Carol Klukie explains since she lost her son in battle she had learned of the toll the war has been taking on war veterans.
She has spoken to the families of veterans who have died as the results of PTSD and has developed empathy for them suggesting the ripple effects of suicide are wide from the community to the workplace.
Klukie believes the government should be doing more to help those veterans deal with their mental health adding, “I certainly wish they would do more for the fellows that are suffering from the aftermath of this, the wounds you can see and the wounds you can’t.”
Klukie does not believe there is a soldier who went to Afghanistan who is not suffering “in some fashion.” and that many “are holding it in and dealing with it.”
