City Rallies Around Injured Councillor

The people of Thunder Bay are getting great credit from a city councillor in helping her recover from a recent fall at her cottage in Upsula.

Rebecca Johnson tells us the words and messages of encouragement have floored her, including a gift basket from her colleagues at city hall.

“People are very generous at this point in time. And, that is very overwhelming, humbling, and I feel very, very positive about it. It gives me the energy to get better quicker.”

The At-large councillor adds people who she hasn’t heard from in years are offering their support.

“From my youth, from my past involvement in a variety of committees, and work in the community, are contacting me, that I haven’t heard from in a long, long time. And that makes me feel really good, I’ll be honest.”

The city councillor notes she’s staying with family for a little longer before returning home, and eventually back to her normal routine.

This has also caused her to reflect on life, noting it what it’s like for her to take it easy and recover.

“Very frustrating, because this is not who I am, of sitting back and not really doing a lot of things and not going anywhere. So, it’s an adjustment in life, it makes me stop and think about what’s important.”

The At-large councillor adds she wants Thunder Bay to know how thankful she is to everyone who’s reached out.

In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
