UPDATE 12pm: Victims Of 11/17 Crash ID’d

Provincial police have released the names of the two people killed in that three vehicle crash on the TransCanada near Pearl Road 5.

They say 61-year old Joann Mendowegan of Thunder Bay, and 46-year old Christopher Towegishig of Greenstone were pronounced dead at the scene.

OPP say it was last night just after 6, when they got the call.

Turns out an eastbound SUV was attempting to make a left hand turn into a rest stop, when it was hit from behind by a transport truck.

Police say the SUV then collided with a west bound pickup truck.

The four people in the pick up truck suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police add the transport driver, who wasn’t hurt, has been charged with careless driving.

His name has not been released.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
