My kids have all grown up watching Dora The Explorer on TV. I’ve always thought she was a pretty awesome role model for young girls AND it’s nice to see a female main character as the hero in a kids show for a change. Dora kicks some serious butt on TV. I wasn’t a huge fan of the ‘older’ Dora show that came out a couple of years back, but the original Dora The Explorer was on pretty regularly around my place. In fact, last year at my oldest son’s birthday party, they put on Dora for a bit of ‘nostalgia’ (he was turning 10 at the time). All of the kids watching sang along with the theme song and were doing all of the call and response parts with Dora and Boots. They loved it and I have to admit, I thought it was a riot!
When I heard about a Dora movie hitting the theaters this year, I was a little worried that they were going to do something really dumb, or violent. I mean, why would you want to ruin Dora’s good name?! Well, Dora and The Lost City of Gold comes out today and I finally watched the trailer…it looks hilarious! I may just have to take the kids to see it this weekend, and if they don’t want to go, I’ll have to go check it out myself!
