Federal Labour Minister Patty Hajdu is standing by the prime minister after the ethics commissioner ruled Justin Trudeau broke ethics rules in the prosecution of SNC Lavalin.
In a statement to our newsroom, Hajdu starts by noting the PM has taken full responsibility.
She goes on to say the former deputy prime minister and attorney general, Anne McLellan, “has made important recommendations about how to strengthen the openness, transparency and accountability of Canadian institutions.”
Hajdu adds she “looks forward to implementing them.”
Earlier this week, the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner Mario Dion, ruled the prime minister was the only person who could exert political
interference on the Attorney General, Jody Wilson-Raybould.
Dion ruled Justin Trudeau used his senior political staff to encourage Wilson-Raybould to use the new “deferred prosecution agreement” in the criminal matter involving the engineering giant.
