It’s still early days for Thunder Pride as it gets ready to host the 2021 Fierté Canada Pride National Conference.
Chair Jason Veltri says right now they’re working with the 2020 event organizers.
“Just to understand the workings of how to plan the conference, understanding how to set up a workshop, ask the other Pride organizations, just to have a better understanding of how the whole conference works.”
Thunder Pride organizers add they are in the process of applying for federal and city funding for the national event.
When it comes to the local Pride celebrations held this year, Veltri says they’re happy with how this year’s event turned out, including the introduction of a street party at Bay and Algoma.
“There was an overwhelming positive response to moving the Pride in the Park to the block party in the Bay and Algoma district,” he points out. “There were very few people who said ‘you shouldn’t have made this decision.'”
Pride officials say this year’s Pride was their biggest yet.
