Keep It Clean Campaign Launched

There’s a new environmental campaign warning you of the environmental dangers of washing your car in your driveway.

EcoSuperior’s Ashley Priem tells us soap, oil, gas and rubble all come off your car and runoff into nearby storm sewers.

“Those do not connect to the sewage treatment plant. They lead directly to all of the local waterways. Anything you have washed off of your vehicle like anti-freeze, road salt, oil, that runs down your driveway and into the drain and can end up in Lake Superior.”

The Keep It Clean campaign encourages you to take your car to a local car wash instead of washing it at home.

Demonstrations of just how dirty water is after washing a vehicle was displayed at Central Car Wash.

A car wash official tells us that by using a car wash, wastewater gets treated, computer-controlled systems minimize water usage and rinse water is recycled and reused.
