Charity Hopes Fundraiser Will Break Struggle

You have a chance to raise money for Our Kids Count by partnering with Half-Way Motors Power Sports.

Patrick Trevisanutto is managing partner with the sports shop, and tells us why they chose the children’s charity as the recipients for the Fall Classic Poker Run.

“They need the help all we can give them, and this is a great organization that some of the larger groups don’t focus on. There’s a lot taking care of food, there’s a lot taking care of poverty and all that.”

The Half-way Motors spokesperson adds the race is September 7th, starting in Kakabeka Falls at Fleming and Strom Roads.

He describes what happens as people race in their off-road vehicle.

“We’ll have rooting along the way, there’ll be little stop points, where you can grab a card. And at the completion of the event, there’ll be people that will give you a poker hand. And at the end of the poker hand, the guy or lady with the highest poker hand, will be the winner.”

And, the executive director at Our Kids Count is hoping the fundraiser will help them to balance their books.

Gladys Berringer tells us last year the Half-way Motors Fall Classic Poker Run brought in just over $30,000.

“We’re just hoping to raise close to $40,000 this year, that will help us to continue the programs to support our families.”

The 1st place prize is $1,000, including a chance to win a Barbeque.
