The NDP continues to call on more help for Attawapiskat and its state of emergency due to contaminated water.
Kiiwetinoong MPP Sol Mamakwa tells us the community has asked for help too many times and action is needed.
Mamakwa suggests he, among others, have become accustomed to not being able to use tap water in their communities.
He says the members have been at it “far too long,” and they are “not beggars in our own country.”
The MPP wonders, “what is it going to take for the governments to respond?”
Last month, Indigenous Relations Minister Seamus O’Regan visited the community and said there is already $1.5 million set aside for water system improvements and the equipment is on-site ready to install.
