Mayor Bill Mauro is making it official he will not be throwing his hat into the ring this coming federal election.
After current MP Don Rusnak’s announced he would not seek re-election; many had wondered if Mauro would put his name forward for the Liberal nomination.
In an email statement, Mauro says he isn’t seeking the Federal Liberal nomination for Thunder Bay-Rainy River.
So far four people are vying for the riding’s Liberal nomination including David Bruno, Marcus Powlowski, Christy Radbourne, and Shelby Ch’ng. A date for that nomination meeting has not been made public.
Mauro is the former Liberal MPP for Thunder Bay-Atikokan.
He lost his seat in the last provincial election to New Democrat Judith Monteith-Farrell.
