Environmentalists Rally For National Debate

Local residents want a debate held on climate change before the next federal election.

Activist Cynthia Nault tells us global emissions need to be cut in half in 12 years.

“When we have the upcoming election, there will be only 11 years left. So what that means is whomever we elect this fall will be in office for four of those eleven years. As young people, we will be the ones that have to live through all the extreme weather caused by climate change.”

The environmentalist says young people are the biggest voting block and federal leaders should be listening to them if they want their vote.

The group gathered outside of the local CBC radio station Wednesday to call on the national broadcaster to organize a climate change debate.
