A consultant is going to zero in on the best use of business land in Thunder Bay for coming years.
Leslie McEachern is the city’s director of planning services, and tells us the plan will give a guide as to how to make Thunder Bay competitive for business opportunities.
“So are there investments we should be making in things like infrastructure improvements, so, road improvements, sewer, water extensions. How do we make sure we’ve got the right amount of land serviced appropriately to meet that future demand.”
The planning director adds current trends will be guide to finding out where future demand is.
She says the plan includes many areas such as Innova Park, and the downtown cores.
“Certainly the Community Economic Development Corporation has secured funding to assist with this plan or strategy, so I think things have just fallen into place.”
McEachern notes this is due since the last plan done years ago.
“Where do we need to consider re-designating, or re-zoning land? Do we need to look at land acquisition, do we need to look at making infrastructure improvements.”
The city’s planning director couldn’t give an estimate as to the cost of the consultant.
