It’s been three years since the Thunder Bay Police Service received recommendations from an inquest into the deaths of seven Indigenous youth.
Police Chief Sylvie Hauth tells us they’ve made headway on a number of the suggestions but notes some are ongoing and will never be finished.
“People would like to say here’s a recommendation it’s done but there are certain things I think that need to be ongoing. When you look at our relationship with the LCBO and the runner program it’s not something you deal with and it’s done. We have to keep that relationship going.”
The Police Chief notes they are directly responsible for six recommendations, but they are working on some of the others with other organizations.
Hauth says they are making a lot of progress and notes it takes time. She feels there is still more to do but she is optimistic they are heading in the right direction.
